Its time for another ASStastic race in the frozen hills. This weeks course will be similar to the last one, but run backwards, and with more sections of singletrack added. As of today, the 27th, we decided to take out the coldest portion of the course. Now instead of turning left out of Speedway, we will turn right up Moose Meadow straight to Black/Brown Bear. This will lessen the time in the cold and keep us in the warmest part of the course. If you were out last race I don't have to tell you, you need face protection and warm boots. Please come prepared for - 10 to - 20F. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be close to 0F, which means very cold in the park. The course is in great shape and super fast. Should be a fun day. This is a fundraiser for Single Trail Advocates, and all proceeds after expenses will be presented to them at the awards banquet on March 4. To pump up the support, you will have the opportunity to make a small donation to them directly through the entry form.
Please arrive at least 45 minutes early to check in and receive your bib. Remember to hold on to your bib for future races. Supplies are limited.
Online entry is $20 for each race but free for juniors under the age of 18. Online entry will close at 10pm the night before the event. You may still sign up on race day; however, the late entry fee is $30.
If you are looking for a more casual event and just want to push it hard and have fun, sign up for the "Cruiser" division. If fun is optional and pain is your thing, sign up for the longer "Open" category.

Nearly 200 Finishers complete the 2012 Frosty Bottom!

Despite winter storm warnings and temperatures hovering just above zero at the start line, over 200 bikers, skiers and runners started the sixth annual Frosty Bottom winter endurance race at Kincaid Park.
With a wicked north wind greeting athletes at the start line, conditions deteriorated from there. After the blowing snow had settled, Tim Berntson left everyone behind, comfortably taking the overall win and capturing the Frosty 50 Bike division title. John Lackey biked to the finish for second, with Daniel Folmar pedaling over the line for third. Jenna App overpowered the women’s field to take overall honors. Darcy Davis hammered the bike for second place, and Sheryl Loan rounded out the overall and bike division podium. Bikers ruled the day, but there were many impressive performances across all divisions.
Conditions at the Frosty 25 finish line at Hilltop were no better. The temperature stayed near 4 degrees for much of the day, and the recent dump of snow made for soft and technical trails. Matt Novakovich had enough of a lead that a broken chain more than a mile from the finish line did not deter him from capturing the Frosty 25 title. Tim Reinbold captured second place, and Jaime Anderson took third. Eeva Latosuo made it a clean sweep for the bikers by capturing the Frosty 25 title for women. Tiffanie Novakovich rolled in just behind for second, while Kara Edwards took third.
After skiing from Kincaid to Hilltop and back, Chet Fehrman narrowly eaked out a win over Cory Smith, breaking the tape a mere 35 seconds in front of the second place finisher. “There wasn’t a single place along the entire trail I could have made up 35 seconds,” an exhausted smith said, as he leaned over his poles at the finish. Cary Grumelot captured third place. Fiona Worcester was the lone female to make the long trip on skis.
Conditions did not prevent a record number of runners from participating. Shane Hargis set the pace for the Frosty 50 runners, and Bixler McClure took second. Shawn McTaggert edged Laura Mcdonough for the women's title. In the Frosty 25 run, Willie Stoll outlasted Matias Saari and Joel Wattum to take divisional honors. April Juliussen bested Danelle Winn and Sarah Thomas for the Frosty 25 run women's title.
